Metrohm Inline Sample Preparation (MISP) for difficult sample matrices

Metrohm Inline Sample Preparation (MISP) puts an end to manual sample preparation for ion chromatography.

MISP stands for methods developed by Metrohm that allow you to fully automate the preparation of even the most challenging samples.

Not only will you increase sample throughput but also improve accuracy and reproducibility of analyses and results.

Metrohm Inline Ultrafiltration – forget about syringe filters!

Inline Ultrafitration combines sample introduction with immediate filtration and removes any particles from the sample. As a result, the analytical column is protected from contamination and its service life is considerably increased.
  • Fully automatic filtration (0.2 μm) of samples during sample introduction
  • More than 100 samples with one filter, because carryover from sample to sample is negligibly small (<0.1%)
  • Cost-saving solution for routine analysis

Straightforward removal of particles, oils, and colloids – Metrohm Inline Dialysis

Metrohm Inline Dialysis not only removes particles from the sample to be analysed, but also oil drops and colloids.

Emulsions, samples containing fats and proteins (e.g., dairy products), body fluids and strongly polluted wastewater can be reliably analyzed without damaging the column or the suppressor.

Metrohm Inline Dilution – leave the pipette in the drawer!

Inline Dilution means all you need to do is place your samples on the rack of your sample processor. The system provides automatic dilution of the sample depending on a predefined concentration limit or the automatically calculated optimum dilution factor. Your results are always reliable, because they are within the calibration range.
  • Automatic sample dilution during sample introduction
  • Unique dilution system based on logical decisions of the system for the analysis with the optimal dilution factor
  • Accurate and reliable results, irrespective of the initial concentration of the sample

Adjusting the injection volume – Metrohm intelligent Partial Loop Injection

Metrohm intelligent Partial Loop Injection (MiPT) automatically adjusts the injection volume to the concentration of the sample.

This technique, too, makes sure that the results are always within the calibration range.

Minimizing sample volumes – Metrohm intelligent Pick-up Injection

Metrohm intelligent Pick-up Injection (MiPuT) is ideally suited for sample volumes as small as a few µL.

There is no sample loss, only a minimum of sample volume is required for an injection.

From a non-polar organic phase to water – Metrohm Inline Extraction

Metrohm Inline Extraction transfers water-soluble components from a non-polar organic phase into an aqueous phase for subsequent injection (after Inline Dialysis).

Getting rid of an uncharged matrix – Metrohm Inline Matrix Elimination

Metrohm Inline Matrix Elimination allows you to separate ionic analytes from the uncharged matrix without the use of sample preparation cartridges (SPE).

Ion analysis in organic solvents is one of the applications.

For trace analysis down to the ng/L range – Metrohm Inline Preconcentration

Metrohm Inline Preconcentration uses a preconcentration column instead of a sample loop. A defined volume of sample is passed over the preconcentration column, the relevant ions are retained, and the accumulated ions are eluted onto the separation column.

Metrohm Inline Preconcentration is ideally suited for trace analysis down to the ng/L concentration range.

Calibration for ultra-trace analysis – Metrohm Inline Calibration

Metrohm Inline Calibration allows you to calibrate any standard concentration in the ng/L range by using a single standard solution at the µg/L level.

This enables accurate and reliable measurements down to the single-digit ng/L range.

Getting the pH right – Metrohm Inline Neutralization

Metrohm Inline Neutralization adjusts the pH of samples in order to prevent interferences with the analysis of anions.

When combined with Inline Preconcentration, Inline Neutralization makes trace anion analysis possible. Adjusting the pH right also prolongs the lifetime of the column.

Inline Sample Preparation for aerosols – Particle into Liquid Sampler (PILS)

PILS is a sample preparation module that samples aerosol particles from an air stream and brings them into the aqueous phase.

Subsequently, the water-soluble ionic fraction (anions and cations) can be analyzed by dual channel ion chromatography.

Preparing gaseous samples – Monitor for Aerosols and Gases (MARGA)

In addition to the aerosol fraction of ambient air, MARGA also collects the ionic load of the gas fraction and brings it into the aqueous phase for subsequent analysis by dual channel ion chromatography.

MARGA is designed for continuous, unattended operation in the field. Read more about MARGA here.

Preparing combustible samples by pyrohydrolysis – Combustion Ion Chromatography (CIC)

In CIC, samples are digested by pyrohydrolysis in an oven unit. The resulting gaseous compounds are passed into an absorption solution, which is transferred to a Metrohm ion chromatograph for subsequent injection and analysis.

CIC is the preferred method to determine various halogens and sulfur in matrices ranging from solids to viscous, liquid, and gaseous samples.
